More Than Electric
YesterdayToday&Forever(2002)

Although this dynamic modern rock band is on the verge of recording a brand new CD this year with producer Barry Blair (from Audio Adrenaline), the public needs to get in touch with their current modern rock project “YesterdayToday&Forever” by none other than my fave, More Than Electric.  Drew Montgomery (lead vocals & guitar), Thomas Cupp (guitar), Brennan Willis (drums), & Brian Pauline (bass) make up the “electric” sound of this extremely modern rock band.  With a quality as solid as popular bands like Weezer, Radio Head, Linkin Park, Jimmy Eat World, and even P.O.D., this band has a refreshing sound that captivates live audiences everywhere.  I should know, we’ve gigged together at Indianapolis Indie-fest 2002.  And these boys from Findlay Ohio know how to rock -  Total pro package.

More Than Electric stands on their own in originality.  Listeners are destined to fall in love with this collection of truly original modern rock worship based tunes. YesterdayToday&Forever” has a strong set of songs that range from all out rafter shakers to rock ballads.  But this ain’t your grandma’s music, unless she’s Joan Jett.  The hottest picks, although they’re all firecrackers, are - man do I have to do this?  They’re all brilliant.  Ok, so I’ll give you all the “10’s” (the rest are 9.9’s):  “I Raise My Hands” is one of the most kickin’ rock worship songs I’ve heard in a while and my absolute favorite on the project.  Songwriter Drew Montgomery uses images of seasons and God’s creation around us to describe how we can worship God again and again in everything we see – every day is a brand new reason to “raise our hands to heaven just to give (Him) praise again”.  “Gave it All” is rock worship ballad that reminds us of how Christ gave his all for us and “never asked for it back”.  What better reason to worship Him now.  Drew’s lyrics on the other songs are colorful and deeply reflective and read like poetry.  Check them out at their website sometime:  www.morethanelectric.com  Two of the most catchy pop/rock songs musically on the CD are the kickoff song “I Want To Fly” and “The Word is Alive” which has received considerable airplay.  I do have to say that “I Want To Fly” kicks this CD and their live shows off in high gear.

You’ll find guitar arrangements that are all over the board from extremely modern rock riffs to 60’s trippin’ attitude  -Thomas Cupp rips it up.  Drew Montgomery leads the band with one-of-a-kind vocals and electric guitar, while both lead guitarist Thomas Cupp and bassist Bryan Pauline can easily double for any band's lead crooner with their solid as a rock bgv's. The beat is kickin' by drummer Brennan Willis who’s not afraid to let his personality show behind those drums.

Overall, “YesterdayToday&Forever” speaks the language of a modern generation.  These tunes can move a small coffeehouse or a large stadium.  For those of you who like to collect the classics “before they were stars”, better get your copy now – this one’s sure to be a collector’s item.
