Our Divided Fortune
Concert Review - April 30, 2006
The Social, Orlando, FL

I was fortunate enough to hook up with a hot rock trio, "Our Divided Fortune" from Orlando and catch one of their amazing shows at my favorite club in O-Town, The Social.  Our Divided Fortune is a regular staple at the hottest club for the local music scene as well as one of the premier clubs to host the hottest national acts.  I was amazed how just a "trio" was able to put out such an energizing show.  These alternative rockers have a little glam rock vibe going for them, and although their sound is uniquely their own, you can hear influences of early Police, Nine Inch Nails and even a little bit of Queen bringing hints of nostalgic rock pleasure to your ears.

ODF is currently working in the studio on a new recording project and for a band who is invited back on a regular basis at The Social, it's a much needed commodity as I'm sure this band will do great with merch!  Their look, their vibe, their attitude is something that truly stands out and will allow them to make their mark as one of the hottest up & coming underground bands in Orlando.  I LOVE the eyeliner and tats on this band and we spent some time comparing notes.  Especially drummer,  Taylor Popkins, who also shares an affinity for star tats like me.  We also have the vegan thing in common.  Taylor introduced me to the Orange Avenue "vegan vender" and we enjoyed one good veggie chili dog together.  I'm sure it helped build the energy he took out on those drums!  However, I wish he would have also wore the eye shadow I  dig so much in the band's promo shot.  At least the eyeliner was in tact!

The band's performance was tight and captivating. Bassist Justin Robinson put out some cool grooves and stayed slyly in the background for most of the set.  But the raw emotional energy from lead singer & guitarist Adam Smith (eeeAdam as I say it with my Detroit/Rochester accent) was phenomenal.  Although he forgot to put on his "Boy George pimp hat", the vox on this dude are some of the most artistically expressive I've heard as he brings color and flair to the vocal arrangements using a mix of falsetto and power vocals that are truly unique among the local bands I've come to know so far.

The killer songs of the evening were my personal fave, "So Wrong" which currently airs on the IRS, "Playing God", and "Affirming a War".  ODF brings artistic integrity to the table when they do their thing.  While most bands are following the latest trends in screamo goth rock and sporting Hot Topic attire, this band stands out as a true original.  Please be sure to check them out at
