Teresa Garcia
Alive  (2002)

Come be wooed by the voice of an alternative rock angel, Teresa Garcia with her modern worship offering “Alive”.  Produced by Jerome Fontamillas from Switchfoot and Joe Marchiano from Joey Baby’s Studio in Grand Terrace, “Alive” offers a great new take on female alternative worship by this California girl.  The unexpected angelically smooth soprano voice you’d least expect in alternative music is joined by the fabulously produced background of an alternative electro-rock soundtrack.  With vocals reminiscing Michelle Tumes united with instrumental influences of U2, Delirious, Peter Gabriel, and even Seal, the fresh trax and inspirational songwriting are sure to stir your spirit in worship.

All songs are written as a collaboration between Teresa and her two producers with the Switchfoot trademark guitar form.  With celebrative and hooky tunes bathed in worshipful lyrics, Teresa delivers her passion for worship with grace and sincerity.  The guitar work of Joe Marchiano is kickin’ and adds the needed alternative edge to the electronic base of the songs.

Though most of the project is fashioned in alternative electro-rock, there are some straight forward piano/acoustic guitar driven tunes to boot as well.  The best song is the title track “Alive” which will entice U2/Delirious fans.  With a big arena feel and anthemy guitar style, “Alive” is a celebrative worship song.  Following a great CD opening is the upbeat “Come Near” which like “Alive”, is well-written in both music and lyric, adding a dose of INXS meets Peter Gabriel and Newsboys.  “With You” reveals a very ambient Peter Gabriel programmed feel with a driving guitar and melody line.  The more pop flavored “Down” starts off with an acoustic pop groove chord pattern similar to Seal’s “Crazy” kicking in with a splash of Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” guitar riff.  With a very infectious pop groove, this song is probably a cross-over possibility.  “Living Water” continues the electro pattern with a dash of Michelle Tumes and is followed by a very celestial and ambient worship offering “Here I Am”.   Contrary to the rest of the project, “Use Me” throws in a hint of new country acoustic rock while the beautiful “The Child I Am” and “Gift From Above” reminisce the familiar ballad fashion of Michael W. Smith.  Overall a very engaging CD with notable songs, style and production.
